Dayton Tea Party

Countdown

257 days until the Big Election.

About Us

The Huber Heights Liberty Group was founded in August 2009 as a
subgroup of the Dayton Ohio Tea Party. We are a non-partisan
organization that consists of ordinary citizens concerned with issues at
the national, state and local levels. Although we come from various
economic backgrounds, occupations and political persuasions, we are
united in our Respect for the Constitution, Support of the Free
Enterprise system, and Desire for Smaller Government and Fiscal
Responsibility.

We believe that Truth is the key to freedom and prosperity. We
march in rallies, but more importantly we educate ourselves and the
public on our country’s founding principles. We promote seminars on the
study of the Constitution and disseminate information on the positions
held by candidates running for public office. We believe our Founding
Fathers developed the formula for success, based on:

  • The Rule of Law, by the adherence to and respect for the Constitution
  • Limited Government
  • Personal and Economic Freedom

We welcome anyone, regardless of race, ethnic background,
gender, religion, or political affiliation, who espouses our
principles of Constitutionally-limited government, the free
enterprise system, and the traditional values on which this
great country was founded.

Some History:

"The people of the U.S. owe their Independence & their liberty, to the
wisdom of descrying in the minute tax of 3 pence on tea, the magnitude
of the evil comprised in the precedent. Let them exert the same wisdom,
in watching against every evil lurking under plausible disguises, and
growing up from small beginnings." --James Madison

Throughout the 1760s and 1770s, the British Parliament imposed
increasingly harsh measures on the American colonies, many involving the
issue of taxation. The British politicians insisted that they had the
right to impose any measure (such as taxation) on America they deemed
fit; the American position was that only Americans had the right to, as
an example, impose taxes on themselves. When, in 1773, the Parliament
enacted yet another measure - the Tea Tax - Americans again cried "no
taxation without representation." On December 16, 1773, members of the
Sons of Liberty boarded three ships and threw more than 300 chests of
tea into the Boston Harbor. This act of protest against a tyrannical
government become known as the "Boston Tea Party."

Fast forward to the first decade of the 21st Century. Over two hundred
years of power being increasingly concentrated in the Federal
capital had resulted in a mounting national debt, and in a government
increasingly detached from its grounding in the Constitution and the
rule of law. It had become more beholden to special interest groups and
the political class's pursuit of power than Constitutional principles
and the will of the American people. More and more Americans were
becoming alarmed at the direction in which the country was headed.

On Feb 19, 2009, Rick Santelli of CNBC, reporting from the Chicago
board of Trade, ranted that "The Government is promoting bad
behavior [with the massive bailouts and irresponsible spending]
We're thinking of having a Chicago Tea Party."

Thus, the "Tea Party Movement" was born as concerned Americans
began organizing at the grassroots level to protest what was
seen as an increasingly overreaching federal government.

On "Tax Day," Apr 15, 2009, from 7 to 8 thousand people gathered in
Courthouse Square for the first major rally of our movement in Dayton,
OH. This was the largest crowd in Ohio and the fifth largest in the
Nation to gather on that day. Clearly, Daytonians are passionate about
restoring our country to its Founding Principles.

Here in Dayton, our parent organization is the Dayton Tea Party. This is
further organized into "Liberty Groups" that are based in each community
in the greater Dayton, OH area. Click here to find the location of a Liberty
Group close to you.
